You only go around once in a lifetime or so they say, so when Bonnie
suggested early last May that she wanted to go to Africa on safari, the
research started to kick in and the emails started to fly. It was an
idea that had first blossomed the year before when Bonnie was visiting
from Calgary, but now we were in full travel mode and a full court press
was on.
Sue didn't have a leg to stand on and was an early recruit. At first reluctantly, but it didn't take her long to embrace the whole idea. She had promised Bonnie that she would be a travel partner when retirement finally arrived and Sue wasn't given the opportunity to back out as Bonnie laid on the guilt trip "you promised me"!!
Tap, tap, tap. Tap, tap, tap. Who else could we coerce into traveling half way round the world? We all agreed immediately that we felt Ray and Waren would make for ideal travel partners and so the seed was sown. It took them a few weeks to commit but they eventually came around and decided to make the leap of faith. They both live in Vancouver, so Messenger, email and Facetime used up quite a bit of bandwidth to coordinate flights and hotel accommodation but it all came together with some prodding and persistence.
Hmmmm? We had room for one more to fill up the safari jeep. Could we entice one more? We had just returned from Russia with our travel partners Shirley and Lorne. We really had enjoyed our travels down the Volga on a river cruise together with them, especially closing down the restaurant with wine in hand and laughter in abundance. Shirley was very interested but Lorne was hesitant. It took a small amount of arm twisting by both myself and Jennifer in addition to some of Shirley's family members but eventually she agreed the opportunity was too good to pass up on.
Voila, and now we are seven. Should be really exciting, lots of laughs and memories to last another lifetime. Scroll down a little further to get a taste as to what we are about to experience. I took those pictures on our last visit. Talk to you from Nairobi. Jambo!!

Africa has always been on my bucket list. How do we join your group? Maybe too late for this safari but maybe next one?
